In this post we will try to cover how digital transformation and remote work allows us to deal with the situation posed by the pandemic, a first in modern history where   working remotely is the norm and not the exception.

The new normal in the ongoing and post-COVID era.

Schools, educational institutions, and workplaces have had to change their working methods rapidly and drastically.

Many enterprises and small businesses were forced to allow employees to work from home when faced with government regulations that prohibited movement of people.

For IT, the key is to understand the need of each worker and give him/her what is necessary for their daily job. Starting with some fast training on new tools to connect from home.

Challenges faced by organizations

Many organizations had to face new challenges. Not only did they have problems with production sites which needed to be closed due to Covid-19 but also situations where the organization lacked an IT infrastructure that enabled remote working.

The tools used for remote connections can be numerous, however it is important that the IT department have control over security and access.

How Virtual Desktops can enable businesses during these times

For several years now analysts have proclaimed “this year is the year of Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI). However, it took Covid-19 to prove the use case. Organizations which invested in VDI a couple years back, proved they had significant advantage over those which did not when it came to providing remote working.

The solution that has proved the most efficient in this situation has been the managed desktop solution where the solution is hosted and managed by a service provider. One of the service providers in this space is for example, Anunta which provides hosted virtual desktops via leading OEMs such as Citrix XenDesktop, Microsoft Managed Desktop As a Service (DaaS) or VMware Horizon.

For various reasons, this is an ideal solution for admins if they do not have in-house resources and capacity to handle the number of remote workers they have in charge.

Anunta is VMware Certified Partner with Partner Credit Transfer (PCT) which means that VMware customers can use PSO credits to purchase Managed Horizon Desktops.

Anunta can provide a use-case deployment, transition, implementation, steady state operations and hand-over of Horizon Cloud or Horizon 7 on VMware Managed Cloud (VMC) on Amazon AWS.

I think it is the new normal and that more and more organization will look to managed cloud hosted desktops to increase business resiliency.
